What is ibrutinib?

Ibrutinib is the international non-proprietary name of an oral Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor. Imbruvica was first approved in the United States in 2013 and received European Union marketing authorisation on 21 October 2014.[1][2]

According to the current US prescribing information (DailyMed, revised October 2025), Imbruvica is indicated for:[1]

  • adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), including CLL/SLL with 17p deletion;
  • adults with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia;
  • adults and children aged 1 year and older with chronic graft-versus-host disease after failure of one or more lines of systemic therapy.
